OTSU, Shiga Pref. (Kyodo) Shiga Gov. Yukiko Kada secured a second term Sunday, beating two challengers after highlighting her accomplishments under her "mottainai" slogan aimed at cutting wasteful spending.
Kada, 60, backed by the Democratic Party of Japan and the Social Democratic Party, defeated Kenichiro Ueno, 44, a former Lower House member for the Liberal Democratic Party, and Hideaki Maruoka, 61, a local union leader supported by the Japanese Communist Party.
