Police on Monday searched the home of former ozeki Kotomitsuki, who was expelled by the Japan Sumo Association for betting on professional baseball games, and other locations to obtain evidence of illegal gambling in a scandal rocking the traditional national sport.
Kotomitsuki has admitted taking part in betting facilitated by a 34-year-old former wrestler who has implicated mobsters as well as the 29-year-old hair stylist of his sumo stable, who allegedly served as an intermediary.
