WASHINGTON (Kyodo) The Democratic Party of Japan should clarify its national security policy under the new leadership of Prime Minister Naoto Kan so Tokyo can quickly build a better alliance with Washington, an expert at a conservative U.S. think tank said.
"The DPJ, so far, has been unable to define what its security policies are, let alone its vision for Japan's role in the world, its interpretation of the U.S.-Japan alliance," said Bruce Klingner, a senior research fellow of the Asian Studies Center at the Heritage Foundation.
