The Liberal Democratic Party's membership may have declined below the 1 million threshold as of the end of last year, party sources said Saturday.
Although the LDP, ousted last September after more than a half-century of almost continuous rule, every year releases sometime between January and March its membership as of the end of the previous year, the custom has yet to be followed this year.
