Liberal Democratic Party leader Sadakazu Tanigaki staked his political career Thursday on the Upper House election, saying he will aim for the party to at least increase its seats in the chamber.
His remarks appear to be aimed at preventing moves within the LDP to pull him down in light of a recovery in public support for the Democratic Party of Japan with Tuesday's inauguration of Prime Minister Naoto Kan.
