SAPPORO (Kyodo) Democratic Party of Japan lawmaker Chiyomi Kobayashi, who was given an ultimatum by former Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama to step down as a lawmaker over a money scandal, will quit after the current Diet session ends, according to sources.
Her decision follows Wednesday's conviction of her ex-accountant, who was involved in her election campaign, for receiving illegal donations.
