The ruling Democratic Party of Japan will keep its aim of capturing 60 seats in the coming House of Councillors election to win a majority in the upper chamber, its upper house caucus leader said Sunday, following a recovery in its support ratings in newspaper polls.
"We would like to stick to the target of securing a majority on our own by being given 60 seats," Azuma Koshiishi, who is likely to be reappointed in the new DPJ leadership launched Friday with the resignation of Yukio Hatoyama, said on an NHK talk show.
