JEJU, South Korea (Kyodo) Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama took time out from a trilateral meeting on this Korean resort island Sunday to announce plans to visit Miyazaki Prefecture, where farmers are struggling to contain foot-and-mouth disease.
"Farmers and residents in Miyazaki Prefecture are fighting against the disease day in, day out, and I want to visit there to encourage them," Hatoyama said after a meeting with the leaders of China and South Korea. "I'm planning to tell them directly that new legislation has paved the way for the central government to take full-blown measures."
